THE CLUBNIGHT
Impact was originally set up by two Huddersfield University students in late 2000 with the aim of bringing quality house music of all different kinds to the dance-starved Yorkshire town. Andy Ollerhead and Dunc Rynehart had been introduced in 1999 and discovered that Andy’s passion for deep, techy house perfectly complemented Dunc’s love for melodic progressive. At the first Impact they would go on to break many of 2001’s biggest records for the first time in Huddersfield, including UBU-‘Pixels’, Layo&Bushwacka-‘Love Story’, Subtech-‘Timeshift’ and Breeder-‘New York FM’. After wrapping up Impact for a summer break Duncan moved out of Huddersfield, making it impractical for Andy to continue the dual promoter’s job individually. Although Impact ran for only six months, it brought some of the finest tech house and progressive DJs to Huddersfield that have been seen in the town long before or since, including Ben Hughes, Matt Appleton and Feel’s George Thompson.

SOFA
Andy went on to create Sofa, a short-lived deep house Sunday session. Despite it’s transient life, Sofa also introduced fresh new DJ talent to the town including the Huddersfield debuts of Spincycle and Sheffield’s Simon Humphries.

SHWALEBONGO
After moving back to Huddersfield, Andy and Dunc once again set out to spread the house music message in the backwards town. Alongside a whole host of individual nights and residencies (between them, they have graced the decks of some of the town’s finest clubs and bars, including monthly sessions at The Camel Club, Abrahams and Howards as well as weekly spots at Varsity, Minstrel, Yates’ and The Parish), the duo put on a special one-off event in the form of Shwalébongo, summed up perfectly by John Freer...

Jon Freer's reviews:
Shwalébongo at Bar-Club-Non, Huddersfield.
Saturday 1st March 2003.
Billed as a night of “proper House with a dollop of progressive”, Shwalébongo proved to be just that. Covering near the whole spectrum, the night was a house aficionado’s dream. The aesthetically pleasing colourfully decorated Bar-Club-Non proved to be an ideal location for the night.

Rob Craven provided the initial warm-up in the relaxing setting of the bar, spinning a mix of joyful disco-house favourites. His set included Cricco Castelli’s irresistible key laden alarmist “Life Is Changing” and MAW’s perennial heart-warming “To Be In Love”. Co-Promoter Andy Ollerhead followed and took the temperate up that extra few degrees, with a scorching set of deep and delicious grooves. Highlights of Andy’s set included Atjazz’s spine tingling rapturous remix of Rhythm Plate’s “Lean” and Kaskade’s certain “It’s You, It’s Me”.

Si Humphries and Paulo took charge downstairs in the club for the majority of the night. They had the floor moving with their first-rate mixing and selection of solid groovesome house. Choice moments in their set included Sheffield favourite, Ladycop’s insistent “To Be Real”, and Tiefschwarz’s energetic foaming “On Up”. To close, Duncan Rynehart and Mark Thwaites upped the tempo and let rip with a barrage of forceful proggy tracks, which included Sasha’s unraveling “Xpander”. Everybody who had been present at the first “Shwalébongo” went home satisfied after a night of top quality music.
